Dental Problems

Older pets commonly get problems with their teeth which often go unnoticed until they go off their food, start salivating excessively or develop an abscess. We monitor teeth at boosters and if we are concerned that a problem is brewing we may recommend that your pet comes in to have a routine scale and polish.

It is very important to prevent dental diseases developing as it has been shown that bacteria in the mouth can invade the blood stream and lead to abscesses forming in the kidneys leading to kidney failure. Prevention involves using dry food, dental sticks and Hills do a specific tooth diet T/d which can be used as a whole diet or treats to help remove plaque.

Dental conditions can be acutely painful as we all know with our own teeth and many clients report after dental procedures that their pet has a new lease of life!

If you would like a dental check call the surgery on 01889 590449, free dental checks for Barkers card holders are available!
