What do the legal medicine categories mean?Prescribed medicines fall into 5 categories and their legal category defines whether they are freely available or require veterinary prescription before they can be acquired. AVM-GSL – Authorised Veterinary medicine – General sales list. These medicines may be sold by anyone. NFA-VPS – Non food animal – vet, pharmacist or suitably qualified person. These are companion animal medicines which may only be sold by a vet, pharmacist or SQP. POM–VPS – Prescription only medicine – vet, pharmacist or SQP. Medicines in this category are for food producing animals and must be supplied on a prescription from one of the above professionals and also dispensed by one of these professionals. YOU MUST HAVE A PRESCRIPTION FOR THESE MEDICINES. POM–V – Prescription only medicine - vet. Prescriptions are required here from the vet, for an animal under his care. The medicine can be dispensed by a Vet or a Pharmacist. YOU MUST HAVE A PRESCRIPTION AND YOU MUST GET YOUR PET CHECKED AT REGULAR INTERVALS BY YOUR VET. CD – controlled drugs – subject to stricter control and not easily available except in very specific circumstances. We will endeavour to dispatch medicines by 1st Class Delivery within 24 hours of the Order being received. Please remember that, where required, we need to receive your Prescription by email or post, with the order, before medicines can be supplied. Where there is an anticipated delay, we will try to resolve the delivery within 3 working days and keep you informed by telephone or email. Packing and Postage Charges There is no charge for postage and packaging on purchases over £40.00. Standard postal charges apply below this spend, depending upon parcel weight. These charges will not exceed £3.00. Ordering Prescription Medication. Your Veterinary Surgeon can supply a prescription for the medication your pet is to receive. We can supply the medicine once we have received that script. Please kindly either send the prescription to us, fax it or scan and email it to us. Here’s how! We keep copies of all prescriptions on file to follow repeats. Currently your Vet can supply a prescription free of charge. (You will probably have to pay for regular check ups 2 or 3 times a year). Please note that prescriptions that do not specify repeats cannot be reused. What if I want to return the medicine? We will only accept non prescription medicine for return and you must contact us within 7 days of receiving the item. It must be returned in its original, unused packaging. Please contact us by telephone or email to inform us of your need to return an item. We will give you a return reference number. Please include this number with your contact details when you return the product. We will contact you with the details of the refund once the return has been processed. Please note we do not refund any postal charges. Your statutory rights are unaffected Who regulates this drug store? The drug store is run by a Veterinary Surgeon who overseas all prescriptions and checks they are correct before being dispensed. We are not a Registered Pharmacy since the Principal is a Veterinary Surgeon and not a Pharmacist. (There is negotiation currently to register all Veterinary Premises where medicines are held and dispensed and this is likely to happen within the next 6 – 12 months.) On occasions we may contact the person who wrote the prescription if we have any queries about the medication , its dose and so forth. All to ensure your pet receives appropriate and safe medication. Payments are taken via Protx – a secure third party like PayPal. Their security checks make sure your transaction is legal and then authorise payment.
